‘The weather outside is frightful, but the fires in the Manor at Old Down Estate are so delightful’…! See what we did there!

There are so many lovely ways to embrace the season and make your wedding stand out during these chilly months! Check out our favourite things that you can only get away with at a winter wedding…

Cosy styling – set the scene with lots of fur, candles and blankets! Candle light will set a romantic feel to your tables and make a little snug for guests to rest those feet!

While summer brides are busy worrying about how to sweat-proof their makeup and avoid overheating in their dress, you get to wrap yourself up in a luxurious shoal. You can even skip the heels in favour of comfy boots under your dress!

Heat Things Up Behind The Bar! You may want an ice cold beer or frozen cocktail, but the winter replacements are even better!

Create a make-your-own-hot-chocolate bar, filled with all kinds of mix-ins — like cinnamon sticks, marshmallows, chocolate chips — and top it off with flavoured alcohol to enhance the taste. We love these mulled wine cocktails as a welcome drink to warm your guests up. Team them with some mini mince pie canapes. Yum!

Let it snow! Get your photographer to do some clever work with your photos and set a snowy scene – Magic!

Expand Your Honeymoon Options! It’s an unfortunate coincidence that peak wedding season (May-September) coincides with peak hurricane season, especially in the Caribbean.

But the winter is the perfect time to make a tropical escape! Leave the snow and ice behind, and enjoy perfect beach weather every day on your romantic retreat.

Or, take advantage of the snowy weather and hit the slopes for your wedding and honeymoon.

Score Free Décor! Take advantage of the holiday season! If you plan your wedding near a big holiday — like Christmas or New Year’s Eve — there’s a good chance your venue will already have some decorations in place.

Here are some pics of our gorgeous Christmas decorations in the Manor. We keep to a very natural pallet allowing your colour scheme to fit right in!

Well, that’s a wrap from us this year guys! Thank you for reading, we hope you have enjoyed our blogs and gained some inspiration for your special day.

From all the team at Old Down Estate we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

See you in 2018!
