Natural beauty in abundance
Discover the landscape of Old Down, where nature’s beauty flourishes in every corner. From our Victorian Walled Garden that is home to our pergola walkway and Kitchen Garden, to our orchard where we grow apples and pears in the Summer.
Our Manor has its very own Rose Garden, full of different vibrant colours and defined hedges. Its Willow trees make for some stunning wedding photos and there’s lots of little paths and passageways to find and explore. Venture past the lake and wander through our very own wood, where towering pines create a canopy of greenery overhead.
Beyond our formal gardens, our grounds stretch out in all directions, inviting you to explore and discover the wonders of nature; including meadows, woodlands and trail paths. During the school holidays, you can get lost (and found) in our Taxus Baccata maze.
Walled Garden
Between our Victorian walls, lies an oasis of colours and tranquility. Stroll along our paths, carefully crafted for your enjoyment and soak in the beauty that surrounds you. Take a moment to unwind by our pond, where sunlight sparkles on the water and our friendly Zebra Finches sing in the distance. Feel free to enjoy a leisurely lunch or snack from our café and sit undercover in our Folley or Stretch Tent. With so many plants to discover and beautiful spots to sit and watch the world go by, there's always something waiting for you in every little corner.
Our Walled Garden is also home to our Toddler Area, where their laughter fills the air as they play and explore. Let's not forget our Kitchen Garden, where we grow produce and beautiful flowers...
Kitchen Garden
Take a look at our Kitchen Garden, where freshness and sustainability come together. Explore our Kitchen Garden Hut, filled with seasonal delights, from vibrant pumpkins and squashes to crisp potatoes and fragrant herbs like basil and thyme. We invite you to take what you need from the hut in exchange for a donation, which helps us continue to nurture and grow our garden for everyone to enjoy. With each donation, you're not just taking home delicious produce – you're also contributing to the sustainability of our garden, ensuring that we can continue to sow seeds and cultivate bounty for seasons to come. Wander through our garden and discover the joy of fresh, homegrown goodness.
Rose and Manor Garden
Have a wander to our lovely Rose Garden, situated next to our historic Manor. You'll be greeted by a mesmerising array of roses in shades ranging from bold reds to delicate pinks, sunny yellows, and creamy whites. Have you tried our Rose Garden Distilled Gin? It’s made with botanicals from the garden and distilled locally. You can purchase a bottle from our Farm Shop.
Our Manor Garden, where you'll find stunning views that stretch for miles. From the rolling fields to the River Severn and the view beyond, the scenery is breathtaking. As you stroll through the garden and rockery, you'll see seasonal flowers like sedums, crocuses, daffodils and tulips. Make sure to take a seat and take it all in.
Lake and Woods
Along our paths down to the bottom of our park lies our lake, a shimmering secret spot nestled amidst greenery. Here, you can unwind and soak in the tranquil surroundings, whether you're fishing in hopes of catching the elusive black carp or simply enjoying the scenery. Don't forget to keep an eye out for our free roaming sheep!
Just down from the lake, our wood lies. Kick through the colourful autumn leaves or watch the sunshine through our lush canopy of trees. Step into our welcoming woods and let the adventure begin!
Picnic Areas
Fact: Food always tastes better outdoors! Or maybe that’s just us. We have several picturesque designated picnic areas around our grounds with tables and benches. Or if you’d prefer, find a secluded sunny spot, and make your own dining den or picnic area.
One of our favourites is the Manor Lawn, offering a stunning backdrop of our charming Manor, as well as the view of the Severn Estuary. For those seeking a bit of adventure, head over to the Adventure Park where you can eat by towering trees and watch the children play. But if peace and quiet is what you crave, look no further than our lake. Nestled by the water's edge, soak in the quiet and enjoy the views. Whether you're in search of scenic views or peaceful spots, our park offers the perfect setting for a delightful picnic experience.
The Maze
Get lost (and found) in our maze! Whether you're a seasoned maze master or a first-time explorer, its fun for all the family to enjoy. It opened in 2019 and since then it's been a huge hit. The maze is mostly open during half term and the school holidays, where we put on seasonal scavenger hunts for all ages to enjoy.
Every year it grows and grows until the 10,000 bushes planted, will form into tall walls.
